When February half term is done, and our minds start to think towards Easter crafting. Spring is almost here and with it comes hope, warmth and things seem a little brighter after a long winter. Brighten up your days by creating a Spring pom pom wreath.

All you need now is some needle felting equipment, which you may have already, or can source easily from a craft shop and you are good to get stabbing!

Easter Eggs and Basket – Needle Felting
If you are a regular customer, you may have received one of our needle felting freebies in the past? Such as our mini valentines’ hearts, flowers, Halloween ghosts or Christmas snow people? If so, you could reuse your equipment from these to make your Spring Pom Pom Wreath for Easter, but again not to worry, needle felting equipment is readily available from all good craft shops and are really handy tools to have in your crafting depository.
THE BASICS
Here’s our quick and easy beginners’ tutorial to needle felting with our Mammoth yarn. The process becomes intuitive the more you practice, but here’s our top tips to get you started with for needle felting using our Mammoth® yarn to create your decorations for your spring pom pom wreath:

Be careful! Obviously, these needles are very sharp, and we want to avoid injuries! So, keep those digits out of the way of the needle, sounds obvious, but we need to mention it. Plus, this is not a suitable activity for children.

Protect your table. A couple of layers of foam blocks will do the trick, we don’t want your beloved crafting table to look like it has had woodworm!

Stab it with the pointy end… It really is that simple. If you have more than one thickness of needle, start with the biggest and when this doesn’t push easily through, swap it for a thinner one. The thinner needle will help with smaller detail and tidying up the surface of your work.

Turn your work regularly. If you zone out and stab for too long (perhaps thinking about an ex-partner?) you risk the work getting stuck to the foam blocks. So carefully peel it off and flip it over regularly, working on both sides.

Don’t forget the edges. Make sure you are stabbing all over, both sides and spending plenty of time around the edges, corners and points of the shape you are creating, folding in any frays.

Trimming is fine, just don’t get too snip happy! Using sharp scissors, you can neaten up the edges as your final step but be careful not to overdo it or you’ll end up with fraying or not a lot left!
HOW TO MAKE YOUR SPRING POM POM WREATH DECORATIONS
Here’s our step-by-step guide to making these very easy easter eggs and basket using needle felting, then you can add them to your spring pom pom wreath…
1. Tie a knot or two in the centre of your yarn offcut.
2. Fold back one side over the knot
3. Repeat with the other end.
4. Holding one end, start to work around the shape, rotating regularly.
5. You may find tying one end helpful to keep a grip, do be careful to keep your fingers out of the way.
6. Work into the bottom of the rounder end of the egg shape.
7. Focus more into the top, felting it tighter to create this shape.
8. Trim any excess from the top and work the ends in.
9. Make the basket by simply twisting a length together into shape, we have kept it loose and felted it in a couple of places to secure. Attach the eggs at the bottoms.
