Super Simple Wiggly Mini Chunky Scarf Yarn

After having a go at chunky crocheting our hat and mini cowl kit (pattern kindly written by crochet superstar and author of many a gorgeous crochet book Sarah Shrimpton of Annaboo’s House) I wondered what it would be like to knit with our super chunky Wiggly yarn with giant knitting needles. I decided to make a mini scarf with this chunky thick yarn.

As it really is super chunky, I didn’t want it to be a long scarf, I want to be able to tuck it into my coat without it making my clothing look too bulky. The result is long enough to wear around the neck and then fold at the front, with my staple winter coat of choice sitting over it nicely.

The Scarf

Created with a standard plain knitting stitch and of course with the chunky Wiggly yarn and 20mm giant wooden knitting needles; the mini scarf measures approx. 70cm long and 18cm wide un-stretched, using approx. 400 grams of Wiggly yarn (2 skeins). It does have stretch to it so can be wrapped a little tighter for a very cosy thick knitted accessory for winter. Of course you could customise this chunky scarf idea to make a giant oversized knitted scarf by using more skeins and adding as many rows as you’d like!

Wiggly yarn composition is 30% wool and 70% acrylic blend, which is a nice combo because you have the warmth and temperature regulating properties of the wool content for the colder winter months, without the yarn costing a bomb. It is a great affordable chunky knitting yarn to make a scarf with.

The Method

400g Wiggly Yarn

20mm Giant Wooden Knitting Needles

Simply cast on 7 stitches (yes! You read correctly! You only need 7!) Knit around 25 rows, leaving enough to cast off (if you run out of yarn, pull out a row or two make it shorter and then cast off). It really is so simple to make this easy chunky knit scarf. A perfect quick DIY knitted gift for Christmas or make a chunky knit scarf for a autumn or winter birthday gift idea.

I’m obsessed with the Teal colour and think it works well to complement other beautiful jewel and vibrant colours for autumn winter knitted warmers, such as ochre / mustard, plum, ruby and emerald colours.
