Spring Summer Crochet Styling

If you are looking for an easy beginners crochet bag project for spring or summer, this is a lovely quick one – enjoy our crochet bag free pattern. At Woolly HQ we are swooning over the beautiful Giant Smooth Ribbon Yarn, which we’ve used to create this crochet bag free pattern so you can make your own chic chunky crochet bag. Our design features handy handles and an optional over – the – body strap. Please note this pattern is in UK crochet terms

 

For Your Romy Ribbon Crochet Bag You Will Need:

Crochet Abbreviations (UK Terms):

CH: Chain

DC: Double Crochet

SLST: Slip Stitch

ST(S): Stitch(es)

DC2TOG: Double Crochet 2 Stitches Together (to decrease in size)

The Pattern

 

Crocheting the Base (An Elongated Oval Shape)

  • Slip Knot. CH8, do not turn work as we will be crocheting in the round. (see stitch chart to help you get going with rounds 1-3)

  • ROUND 1: 1DC in next 6 stitches, 3DC in the last chain at the slip knot (at the end), 1DC in the following 5 stitches, 2DC in the last stitch. Insert stitch marker. (16 ST)

Slip Knot

CH 8

RND 1: DC in 6 sts

RND 1: 3DC in end CH

RND 1: DC in next 5 sts, then 2DC in last st.

 

Crocheting the Sides of the Bag

  • ROUND 2: 1DC in the next 7 stitches. 2DC in next stitch. 1DC in next 7 stitches up the other side, 2DC in last stitch. Insert stitch marker. (18 STS)

  • ROUND 3-7: 1DC in each stitch for 5 rounds. (18 STS)

  • ROUND 8: 1DC in the next 8 stitches, DC2TOG (stitch 9 and 10) (HINT: DC together by inserting hook through the post between the stitches as shown in the pictures.) 1DC in the next 7 stitches. DC2TOG in next stitch (16 STS)

 

 

 

RND 2: 2DC in last st.

After RND 3-7

RND 8: DC in next 8 sts. DC2TOG.

 

 

 

RND 8: 1DC in the next 7 stitches, DC2TOG at end of round.

 

 

Crocheting the Handles:

  • ROUND 9: 1DC in next 2 sts, CH5 (don’t chain too tightly or it will be tricky to work into it in the next round.) Skip 4 sts, rejoin at 5th st with DC, DC in next 3 sts, CH5, Skip 4 sts, rejoin at 5th st with DC, 1DC.

RND 9: DC in next 2 stitches, CH5.

RND 9: Skip 4 stitches, rejoin at 5th stitch with a DC.

RND 9: 1DC in next 3 stitches, CH5.

RND 9: rejoin at 5th st with DC, 1DC.

 

OPTIONAL: Chain the cross – body – strap and connect to other side using a slip stitch.

 

 

To Finish:

ROUND 10: SLST in every stitch over the handles and around to tidy up the edge of the crochet bag.

 

To Chain A Strap:

CH as many as you want, depending on the yarn left to create a shoulder strap. We chained 40.

Attach strap to opposite side with a slip stitch. Tie off. Tie a bow if desired. Weave in ends.

You will need approx. 9 metres of ribbon left over to make the glasses case.

  • SLIPKNOT, CH 4

  • DC in 3 sts down the chain

  • 3DC in slip knot chain (same st).

  • DC in 2 sts down other side of chain.

  • 2DC in last stitch. (10 sts.)

  • Insert stitch marker.

  • DC around twice.

  • Fasten off, weave in ends.

 

 

Not MUCH yarn left?

Make a necklace, bracelet or even a scrunchie by simply creating a chain length and tie off and attach the ends!
