Woolly Mahoosive’s 10th Birthday!

From a dining room full of yarn to a warehouse full of colour (and a few grey hairs!)

I can hardly believe it — Woolly Mahoosive is celebrating its 10th birthday this month!
The website went live in November 2015, after about eight months of planning, researching, testing and generally trying to figure out how on earth to bring giant yarn to the UK.

It all started with a random Facebook post — an amazing mahoosive-stitch blanket made from pure merino.
I absolutely loved it… until I clicked the link and saw the price: over £1,300 for the size I wanted!
Typical me — instead of giving up, I thought, I’ll make it myself.

So off I went hunting for the yarn.
Cue another shock: the merino alone would cost £600 plus shipping from Finland.
That’s when my research brain kicked in (the same one that loves family-history rabbit holes).
If I could find a way to import merino, maybe I could make it more affordable for everyone else.

A few months later my dining room became a stock room.
Boxes of gorgeous merino arrived from overseas, and my retail price was less than half what I’d found elsewhere.
Even so, merino was still a considered purchase — so I started looking for an alternative that was just as soft but easier on the wallet.

After months of samples and back-and-forth conversations, Mammoth Yarn was born —
but not before I’d nervously wired £6,000 to a factory thousands of miles away.
Production alone took 12 weeks, followed by another 6 weeks of delivery on the sea.
The day it finally arrived — 750 kg on my driveway! — was terrifying and wonderful all at once.
Our first two colours were Burgundy and Taupe, and they sold faster than I could roll them.

Since those dining-room days we’ve moved into a 4,000 sq ft warehouse, now stacked with over 20 colours and a growing family of yarns — Mammoth, Merino, Twisty Twisty, Wiggly, Squiggly and more.
Our biggest ever delivery? 40 tonnes in one go!
What a long way we’ve come.

But let’s be honest — it hasn’t all been smooth knitting.
Running a small creative business is a 24/7 job.
The highs are incredible, the lows can be brutal, and the to-do list never ends.
We multitask, we overthink, and our brains never really switch off.
Some days it feels like I’ve aged 25 years, not 10 — so giving 10 % off to celebrate would be mean.
