Easy Crochet Plant Pot Pattern – Using 5mm Crochet Cord

Houseplants are so big in home interior décor at the moment, more and more people are bringing the outside in and seeing the benefits of adding greenery to their indoor space not only aesthetically but mentally too. Surrounding ourselves with little plant babies and caring for them is said to improve our mental health, and there’s been an amazing resurgence in popularity. They complement our interiors so fantastically and give that finishing touch that we hadn’t realised was missing.

Adding a fabric covered, knitted or crochet plant pot cover to your houseplant’s pot adds that extra texture and interest to your home design scheme and can be used to tie in different pops of colour from around the house. It is also a quirky and cool gift idea for a friend or housewarming new home present.

If you are wanting to glam up your plants with a new outfit and combine your crochet skills to create a handmade crochet plant pot cover, (on a budget too!) Look no further… Our pattern below using our 5mm Crochet and Macramé Cord in 2 colours could make 2 different sized crochet plant pots, and I found I had enough left over to make a Macramé plant hanger too (which we also do a kit for by the way HERE), all for just £18 for both yarns (Bargain!) and a bit of crocheting recreational time in front of the latest episode of Gardener’s World! I used “School Blazer Green” and “Cream”, but the cords are available in a range of colours, you could create a simple one colour plant pot cover or combine 2 or 3 colours in blocks to make a truly unique houseplant cover. The cord is recycled Organic cotton too! So a plus that it is also environmentally conscious.

The crochet plant pot covers have a certain amount of flexibility to fit around different shapes of pots; as a guide, pictured is a “SMALL” crochet plant pot cover that I have fit around a pot that has a larger rim than base, hence the different shape. The “SMALL” will fit a pot of around 6 Inches / 15cm and a “MEDIUM” will fit a pot with a diameter of around 9 Inches / 23cm. And you can make them to the height that you require. It is a good idea to have a pot in mind while you are making and offer it up to your work as you go along to check sizing.

I also used a chunky 12mm Wooden Crochet Hook for this crochet plant pot project. I’d also recommend using a drip tray under your plant and remove the cover when watering to make sure it doesn’t spill over and soak into your new make!

I hope you enjoy creating yours and please do share your makes with us on Instagram @woollymahoosive. We love to see what you’ve got up to :).
